SACRAMENTO -- Police pulled a man from an overturned car "fully engulfed in flames" Sunday after they heard gunshots ring out in Sacramento's Brentwood neighborhood.

Sacramento Police report they are still investigating the scene on 24th Street between Fruitridge Road and Glen Ellen Circle, near where officers first heard gunfire around midnight. Witnesses now report hearing as many as 12 gunshots in the area.

The shots alerted them to the burning car on its side off the road.

One witness captured footage of the scene as police pulled the driver from the flames.

"I think he's alive, I just saw his foot move, dude," says a witness from behind the camera as crews battle the fire and officers approach the vehicle.

The man in the car was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Officers also witnessed a car leaving the scene and have detained the passengers as witnesses.

No arrests have been made and police have not reported any suspect descriptions at this time.

Police said 24th would be closed from Fruitridge Road to Glen Ellen Circle until about noon for the investigation.
