Man Killed, Woman Injured in Drive-By Shooting on 40th Street

SACRAMENTO -- Police are investigating a drive-by shooting on 40th Street near 14th Avenue in Sacramento that killed one man and injured a woman around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Both the man and woman were transported to an area hospital with gunshot wounds.

When officers arrived, 19-year-old Les Eugene Griffin was unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; he later died from his injuries.

The 22-year-old suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg and is in stable condition.

Police say the two were standing near a car on 40th Street just south of 14th Avenue when gunfire erupted from a passing vehicle.

At this time there is no description available for the shooter or the vehicle.
