Man Hospitalized After Deputy-Involved Shooting in Lake Tahoe

CARNELIAN BAY, LAKE TAHOE — The Placer County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Carnelian Bay on the north side of Lake Tahoe. The sheriff’s department says one man was shot by a deputy and is now hospitalized. Officials confirmed no deputies were injured in the altercation.

Around 4 a.m. Sunday morning, Placer County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 600 block of High Street in Carnelian Bay for a report of a man acting “bizarre.” When deputies arrived at the residence, a man attempted to stab a deputy with a barbecue skewer, police said.

The deputy was able to “stop the threat” with their weapon. The suspect was then taken to a hospital in Reno.

Police say roads in the area of High Street and Nightingale Road will be closed for most of the day because of the ongoing investigation.

Police ask that people stay away from the area.

The suspect’s condition is unknown at this time.
