A man who wore a super hero mask while robbing Modesto businesses has been caught while trying to rob again.

Wednesday afternoon, employees at Rogers Jewelry say a man wearing a ski mask and holding a baseball bat approached the store. Before he could enter, an employee locked the front door.

When he couldn’t get into the store, the man wearing the mask got back in his Ford Focus and drove away. When Modesto Police officers arrived, employees were able to provide a description of the man and the car.

A nearby officer heard the call to locate the car, and was able to pull the driver over without incident.

The driver, 22-year-old Aaron Gonzales was arrested. Jewelry store employees identified him as not only the man who approached the store Wednesday, but also the man who robbed the same store on August 13th. In the earlier robbery, the suspect took a baseball bat and smashed the display counter.

After questioning, investigators learned Gonzales had committed a recent crime spree, robbing the Rogers Jewelry in August, and two other places on Monday while wearing a “Captain America” mask.

A search of Gonzales’ home recovered the “Captain America” mask, and other evidence.

He is now in the Stanislaus County Jail facing robbery charges.

Officers in Modesto say a man in a Captain America mask robbed two businesses Monday.

At about 2 p.m., the masked man robbed a Check ‘N’ Go check cashing location on Oakdale Road. According to police, he brandished a gun and took cash from a register behind the counter.

Thirty minutes later, while officers were at the first robbery, a second robbery was reported at the William Douglas Jewelry store on Floyd Avenues. A man was reported to be wearing a Captain America mask and had a gun, matching the description of the man who robbed the check cashing business.

The man is described as being in his late 20′s to early 30′s with a heavy build. He was wearing a grey Harley Davidson hoodie, black pants and, of course, a Captain America mask.

If you know anything about the two robberies, you’re asked to call Modesto Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636.
