Man Arrested for Hit-and-Run that Injured 2, Killed 4 Dogs

A man pulled over for possibly driving under the influence is now facing charges in connection with a hit-and-run accident that killed four dogs and serious injured a Carmichael couple.

Monday evening, Harison Long-Randall and Gemily West were walking their dogs along Engle Road near Garfield Avenue. A light brown Nissan Maxima hit a stop sign, then headed toward the couple in the crosswalk.

Randall, West and all four dogs were hit; the animals were killed, the couple has injuries to their legs. The driver then took off.

Early Thursday morning, CHP pulled over a Nissan Maxima. While talking to the driver, 31-year-old Paul William Walden, the officer noticed his car matched the description from the hit-and-run and had damage.

Walden was arrested for driving under the influence, and after more questioning, he admitted to being behind the wheel during the hit-and-run Monday night.

Walden is in the Sacramento County Jail facing two counts of hit-and-run, four counts of animal cruelty, driving under the influence and driving on a suspended driver’s license.

Thursday afternoon, the Greater Sacramento New Car Dealers Association announced that they will donate $10,000 to the Harison Long-Randall and Gemily West fund.
