Edward Valila, 32, was arrested in connection to the theft of nearly 1,000 gallons of gas in Roseville.

A man trying to save some money on gas, by stealing 1,000 gallons of it, is now sitting in jail.

Roseville Police officers arrested Edward Anthony Valila at his home in Elk Grove Sunday night in connection with the gasoline theft last month.

Sometime between September 26 and 28, cops say someone pumped a large amount of gas without paying for it. When investigators responded, they thought the person may have used fraudulent gas cards or another device to make it seem like the fuel was paid for.

Surveillance video caught an image of the thief’s car, a black, four-door Toyota pickup. It appeared the gas was pumped into containers in the back of the truck.

Valila, 32, is sitting in the Placer County Jail facing charges of grand theft and conspiracy. His bail was set at $5,000.

Police say the station lost about $4,500 from the theft.
