Rocklin Boy Scouts could be searching for new digs because the community center they’ve been using may soon start charging.

“We received a letter from the city last month, basically stated after 25 years of using the community center, they were going to start charging us fees,” said Troop 29 Chairman Jeff Sherer.

Those fees are $90 an hour, or about $10,000 a year. The fees are something the troop cannot afford.

The troop says they don’t want to have to leave because they’ve enjoyed the center’s facilities so much.

The City of Rocklin said the proposed fees are all about balancing a budget and keeping things fair.

“Rocklin is not exactly the city that it was 30 or 40 or 50 years ago,” said City Councilman George Magnuson.

Troop 29 say they plan on making their case against the fees at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.
