Vigilant South Sacramento neighbors turned in a squatter who started a fire in vacant home.

The squatter was questioned and taken into custody around 12:30 a.m. on Lindale Drive near Florin Road.

Authorities believe the squatter may have set the fire to stay warm. They were able to quickly put out the fire.

Battalion Chief Rick Griggs said the “best thing people can do is keep their eye out like these neighbors did. If they see someone and know they don’t belong there, call the police or sheriff’s department.”
