Sacramento’s beloved hot dog joint Capitol Dawg will close next week, owner Mike Brown confirmed Friday.

Brown told FOX40 that he is shocked that a place as popular as his restaurant can’t survive in the current economic climate.

Capitol Dawg has won many accolades from local publications, including Best “Cheap Eats” place from Sacramento Magazine two years in a row.

Brown’s restaurant also has the honor of having the most expensive hot dog, according to Guinness World Records. The dog sold for $145.49, with a third of the proceeds donated to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

Capitol Dawg is on 20th Street between L Street and Capitol Avenue in Sacramento. Their last day is Tuesday.
