“He wasn’t doing anything. He was driving the boy to school. That’s what he did. there’s no rhyme or reason to it,” Kitty Hamilton told FOX40.

Hamilton knows something about unanswerable questions. Questions like why? Why is her son Bryan Vandeventer gone today when he was here just yesterday?

“The only think I can think of:  he’s up with God,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton’s son Bryan Vandeventer was driving on Green Valley Road in Shingle Springs, west of Ponderosa, when suddenly an oak tree pulled free from the rain soaked ground and smashed into his truck.

Vandeventer wasn’t alone in that truck. He was driving his girlfriend’s son to school. The 10-year-old boy was sitting in the back seat, unharmed.

“My son feels very hurt because he thinks it’s his fault in a way. Because he couldn’t do anything to help him, and the tried so hard to help him, his best friend and buddy,” said Susan Jones, Vandeventer’s girlfriend.

Vandeventer had plenty of friends and buddies. In a community that is used to dealing with sometimes harsh and unpredictable weather, he was a helping hand, now gone, in the most unpredictable way.

“He touched everybody he met in some way, shape, or form,” said Hamilton.

This very thing happened to a very close family friend. It is so sad, my heart and prayers are with this family. May god bring you some kind of comfort in your time of need.
