Modesto’s Carpenter Road Bridge will be closed possibly for the next few days thanks to a broken water main, an official reported Tuesday.
Around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, a security guard noticed that a large amount of erosion was happening.
It was then discovered that a large water main had ruptured.
The bridge has been undergoing a seismic retrofit. Battalion Chief Cecil Ridge with Modesto Regional Fire notes that the bridge could be closed for at least a few days, with one lane possibly opening up at some point.
