Ripon Police busted a 17-year-old girl for offering sex online; it shines a light on an even bigger problem, online prostitution.
As soon as we pulled up to a major strip in Stanislaus County, we knew something was going on. From the looks of it, you’d think there was a giveaway, cars lined up. Turns out sex was up for sale. Our cameras were rolling as one after one, “Johns” were coming to make a deal.
Just ten minutes away from that scene, another brazen illegal act in Ripon.
“She was blatantly offering sex for money,” said Sgt. Steve Merchant with the Ripon Police Department.
Ripon Police conducted an online prostitution sting and made quite the bust, a 17-year-old girl offering up sex for cash.
“What we know is what was said on scene and her words were very explicit,” Merchant said.
So explicit, Merchant couldn’t even say it out loud.
Years ago prostitutes would mainly solicit on street corners and at truck stops, but now police say they’re going hightech.
“Some of the prostitutes are going online and promoting themselves, others are working through or for someone.”
As for the 17-year-old she also had drugs on her when she was arrested. Ripon Police gave her a citation and released her to her parents.
Police aren’t just arresting these ladies, they also refer them to local organizations. They help them get the counseling and help they need.
