James Clifton, an employee at O’Reily’s Auto Parts in Stockton ran toward Leo’s Jewelers Monday afternoon when another employee noticed the store was being robbed.

“He was hyperventilating. He didn’t even know where he was” James Clifton said. “When I walked in, I saw a man on the ground, bleeding. I called to the ladies [outside] and asked for a knife.”

Clifton says he cut the zip ties from the 63-year-old store owner’s wrist.

Stockton Police tell FOX40 the robbers came in with ski masks and hammers, taking an undisclosed amount of jewelry, after tying the owner up.

“I can’t believe they’d beat a 63-year-old man” Clifton said.

The owner is in stable condition after being treated for various injuries. The sign taped to the front door says the store will reopen Feb. 18.

Police have made no arrests.
