NBA Commissioner David Stern at All-Star Weekend event


NBA Commissioner David Stern held his final All-Star Game press conference Saturday night in Houston and the Seattle-Sacramento battle over the Kings dominated the discussion.
Among other things, Stern shared his thoughts on Sacramento’s chances of keeping its team, how expansion is unlikely and why the Sonics left Seattle. Below is a transcript of the questions and answers related to the Kings.
Before the questions from the media began, Stern said the following:
I think it’s fair to say that we have an application in house as you know from Seattle to both transfer ownership to what I’ll call the Hansen-Balmer group and an application to move the team to Seattle to play in Key Arena while the process goes on to get permission to build a new building in Seattle and various lawsuits and environmental impact and other things are dealt with…I met with Mayor MGinn of Seattle, we have two committees focusing on it – …
