Authorities are searching for two adults and two young children missing off the coast of San Francisco after their 29-foot sailboat took on water, the Coast Guard said late Sunday.

The vessel, possibly named Charmblow, was about 65 miles (105 kilometers) off the coast of Pillar Point when someone on board radioed the Coast Guard at 4:20 p.m. The caller said the boat was taking on water and the vessel’s electronics were failing, the Coast Guard said.

About an hour later, the boat operator said the occupants were abandoning the vessel, and the Coast Guard lost communication with the boat.

The crew might have boarded a life raft, the Coast Guard said.

Several aircraft and vessels have joined the search for the boat’s occupants, which include two children under the age of 8, the Coast Guard said.

I heard the whole thing on my marine radio. He was trying to make a life raft with a ice chest but he had no life raft on board. All he had was some flares. He also was never able to give a position of his vessel so a location would be very hard to determine. The water was coming from the hull of the vessel and was not reported as a sinking vessel until sometime after the initial report of just a disabled vessel. He could not see land. I was sailing in the sf bay yesterday and it got a little ruff around the time the first calls started coming over the radio.
