A section of Highway 99 in Manteca that was shut down following a shooting and standoff reopened late Wednesday night.

A suspected gunman had barricaded himself into a propane tanker at a business park at Austin and Frontage Roads in Manteca. He and Manteca Police reportedly exchanged gunfire.

Shortly before 11 p.m., traffic on Highway 99 began moving again and the strong smell of tear gas filled the air as officers took the man into custody.

The man was hit once during the exchange of gunfire, police say. The severity of his injuries are not immediately clear.
