Deputies with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department were able to pull a suicidal man from the ledge atop a parking garage at the Mercy San Juan Hospital early Monday morning while he was distracted from below.

The 59-year-old man reportedly called the Sheriff’s department and said he was on top of the building and wanted to jump off. Deputies showed up while the communication center kept him on the line.

The Sheriff’s department said a patrol deputy distracted the man from the ground while a team of deputies snuck up behind him and pulled him back from the ledge.

Physically unhurt, the man was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.

A Sheriff’s helicopter captured video the rescue from above.
