A frame from the 30-second pro Sacramento ad running in New York’s Times Square.

We’re used to the billboards in New York’s Times Square peddling products, pushing a Broadway play, or counting down the New Year.

But there’s a new ad with a unique message and is distinctly more purple than the rest; a 30 second commercial stating the Kings belong in Sacramento. It’s the creation of the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau and Sacramento Sports Commission.

While the message is simple, “Keep the Kings in Sacramento.” The reason for posting the ad is bigger than basketball.

SCVB officials said visitors spend $2 billion into the local economy and the kings as well as the arena are a big part of that.

Starting Tuesday, the 30-second commercial is running every five minutes in Times Square for the next 72-hours.

Normally ads in Times Square are meant for the millions of passersby, but this one is meant solely for the NBA Board of Governors.
