Thieves broke into an art gallery early Monday morning in Sacramento, stealing several items including a $3,500 sculpture made by the gallery owner’s late husband.

Police were alerted of the burglary at Barton Gallery on 17th and I Streets when neighbors reported hearing glass break.

Police initially thought someone had been vandalizing the gallery by etching on glass, leading it to break.

When the owner arrived, they realized several items had been stolen.

In addition to her late husband’s piece, a $920 hand blown glass vase and $850 sculpture were also stolen. The owner was discouraged, especially since it wasn’t the first time her gallery had been broken into.

She said, “It’s not a high profit business, so these things are hard to recover from.” She says she will consider closing the gallery.
