Dropped Cash Taken at Manteca Fast Food Restaurant

Surveillance footage from the night the cash was stolen.

It was money that was intended to be a down payment on a new home, but it’s money that a man named “John” will probably never get back.

“It’s really heart breaking,” said John.

It happened earlier in May, when John says he had $2,200 in cash in his lap while driving to the El Pollo Local in Manteca. As he got out of his truck, the money fell out.

Video from the fast food joint shows another man grabbing the cash from under John’s truck before tossing it into his car he pulled up in.

John says the worst part, besides losing his money, is that the thief and his friends just stared at him from inside of the restaurant as he tore through his truck looking for it.

“They knew it was mine, they had to know, I was tearing through my truck looking for it.”

The suspect rode up in a blue Honda with a white door.

John and Manteca Police are hoping someone will either recognize the man or his vehicle. The security camera video could not make out the license plate.

“It’s a life lesson,” said John.
