After dive teams searched night and day for a man seen driving his car into the Sacramento River, DART members pulled Reggie Hill’s grey Pontiac out of the water Wednesday.

“It’s very unfortunate. I’m sure it wasn’t a rational decision of his. Something happened to him within himself,” Alonzo Eaton, Hill’s father-in-law, told FOX40.

Eaton said none of this made any sense. Hill was a brand new dad. Had a new job. He was the one who counseled troubled kids.

Witnesses describe Hill the night he reportedly drove into the river as “despondent.”

But a couple of people spoke with Reggie last night, before watching him drive into the water.

“As we were leaving, he turns to us and says, ‘Love your kids.’ You could tell there was a lot of emotion behind when he said it,” a witness said

He overheard Reggie on his cell phone, very upset. Then, watched in disbelief.

“He shot through the gate, a whole bunch of sparks shot out… shot out over the water, he had all the lights on in his car and he was just holding on to the steering wheel the whole way down. As soon as he hit the water, he was gone,” the witness said.

Leaving behind heartbroken wife.

“She loved Reg. God has blessed her to have a child with him, after trying for so long,.”  Eaton added.
