Search and rescue teams gear up and head into the Sacramento River to search for a car that was reported to have gone into the water.

A man called Sacramento dispatchers and threatened to kill himself and his children early Wednesday morning, according to witnesses.

He said he was taking them in his car around midnight Tuesday.

Around the same time, a witness saw a car break through a gate leading to the Sacramento River in Land Park near Sutterville Road and Riverside Avenue.

Nothing was initially found and a crew called off the search at daybreak.

Around 8 a.m. Wednesday, firefighters and the dart team reopened the incident. They’re using sonar boats to search the river.
