Lodi Police arrested John Ganoe for allegedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at a Lodi Motel.
They say he lured her there, held her at knife point and assaulted her.
Carol Shockley was shocked by allegations against her former neighbor at the Star Motel in Lodi.
The motel John Ganoe listed as his address while registering as a sex offender in late April, but hotel records show it wasn’t his residence for long. He moved out May 1.
“He seemed kind of like an okay guy just like every other Joe, John that comes here,” said Shockley.
Other residents of the hotel, declined to appear on camera, said Ganoe moved out of the hotel to move in with the family of the girl he’s now accused of sexually assaulting.
Friends say Ganoe used that family relationship to lure the teen to another hotel on South Cherokee Lane on Saturday under the pretense of babysitting.
“Just a whole bunch of cops investigating the crime about the 13 year old girl that was here it was somewhere in the back area of the hotel,” said Tyler Macheel.
Lodi Police say Ganoe held the girl at knife point, repeatedly sexually assaulting the girl overnight before letting her go. Ganoe is charged with lewd acts with a minor, oral copulations, rape, terrorist threats, sodomy and threats with a weapon. He was arrested in Stockton Monday his bail is set at $450,000.
“You see him around here all the time he is just one of the regulars just in and out of Lodi,” Macheel said.
Moving around made him harder to track, since Ganoe failed to register his latest address. Police had no idea he was living with a 13-year-old girl.
When FOX40 searched him on Megans Law, there was no record of a John Ganoe anywhere in the state. Lodi Police say the Department of Justice is responsible for updating the site. They are not sure why he wasn’t on it.
