LANCASTER, Calif. (KTLA) – Family and friends mourned the loss on Sunday of a Lancaster pastor who died in a fatal crash on the 14 Freeway in Acton.

Dr. Manard Giles, 77, was killed when a drunk driver going the wrong way plowed into his car, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident happened early Saturday morning on the 14 freeway near Escondido Canyon Road.

The driver, later identified as Bradford Pate of Burbank, drove his Toyota Tundra south onto the northbound lanes, the CHP said.

Pate’s truck hit Gile’s Chrysler 300 head-on. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Giles, pastor of The Answer Community Church of God in Christ in Lancaster, was pronounced dead at the scene.
