The Sacramento County Clerk’s Office extended its hours to 7 p.m. Friday after the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals officially lifted the stay on the Proposition 8 case, allowing same-sex marriages to resume immediately.

Clerk Recorder Craig Kramer said the office won’t be open over the weekend, but extra staff will be on hand Monday.

Nicola Simmersbach and Diana Luiz, who have been together for seven years, were the first to show up to the Clerk’s Office Friday after the stay was lifted.

The Clerk’s Office tweeted Friday afternoon that couples should register online first in order to speed up the process.
