A small grass fire shut down Highway 50 in both directions Monday afternoon in Shingle Springs.

The fire is just west of Ponderosa Road.

Highway 50 was closed at Cambridge Road. Cal Fire suggested drivers take a different route.

At the request of Cal Fire, PG&E “de-energized” power lines in the area to protect both firefighters and infrastructure. Forty-nine thousand customers were left without power while the lines were shut down.

Cal Fire investigators say the fire burned up to a power sub station.
