Kyburz Fire Presents Unique Challenges to Firefighters

Kyburz Fire, near Pollock Pines
July 8, 2013

A fire burning along Highway 50 is 95% contained Thursday morning.

The Kyburz Fire started Monday afternoon after sparks from a truck along the highway started nearby grass on fire. The driver who started the fire has not yet been identified.

Firefighters on Thursday will continue to check the fire perimeter to extinguish hot spots.

Highway 50 is already back open to two-way traffic. After a complete highway shutdown Monday, there were traffic controls in place for one lane traffic this week.

Crews have started repair work to roads and trails in the fire area. All campgrounds are open at this time.
