It just is not something you see every day while traveling on the freeway; a car headed in the wrong direction.

“We saw other cars ahead of us just going left and right and everyone suddenly breaking and then it came straight towards us out of nowhere,” said driver, Sandeep Sanghera.

Sanghera and his wife of one year says he noticed the car, swerved out of its way and hit a van traveling in the slow lane. Then he says both vehicles ended up in the field next to the freeway.

“I just saw a car coming towards us and then I was just shouting at him ‘move on the side or do something’ and he just went to the side and then we hit another car that was on our right side,” said Sanghera’s wife and passenger, Gurjot Kaur.

The car traveling the wrong way on I-5 near the Highway 99 interchange finally ended up crashing head-on into another car.

“I’m probably still in shock, talk to me tomorrow then I will probably tell you a lot more,” said Sanghera.

Though the couple remains stunned by what happened on I-5 they walked away from the scene of the accident with nothing more than a scratch.

“We’re really blessed, we just thank God that we survived,” said Kaur.

CHP says it is investigating this case as a possible driving under the influence case. Three people including the driver were taken to UC Davis Hospital for treatment.  Their names and conditions have not been released.
