Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Investigators say they will wait for autopsy results before they release more information about the woman whose body was found at the doorstep of a West Modesto house on Briggs Avenue.
The body was found in a carport in front of a sliding glass door. Neighbors say the homeowners did not hear anything before the body was reported by a passerby. Richard Harris who lives next door pointed at a large stain on the dirt alley next to the house saying it was the victim’s blood.
Harris said an acquaintance told him he was up at around 6 am on Sunday shortly before the body was discovered. Harris said the man heard some screaming, but it’s not the kind of thing that he would investigate. That’s because the alley is a shortcut that zig-zags behind a number of houses and has what appears to be a homeless camp.
Graffiti and trash litter the alley. Scattered in the area are hypodermic needles, leading to speculation by some that drugs were involved in what appears to be an attack on the woman.
Harris also said the woman’s purse was found next to the body. That was not confirmed by investigators, who also did not offer up a motive or a cause of death. They are investigating the incident as a homicide.
