One man was taken to the hospital after an early morning fire at the Chardonnay Court Apartments.

Sacramento Metro Firefighters arrived at the apartment complex near La Verta Ct. and Bettencourt Ln. around 1:45 a.m. Saturday morning to find a fire raging in a first floor unit.

While firefighters battled the blaze and made sure all residents were accounted for, neighbors helped remove a man who was suffering from smoke inhalation. Paramedics helped him immediately and took him to UC Davis Medical Center for further treatment.

The fire was contained in less than 15 minutes – meaning the damage was limited. However, electrical service was interrupted in 8 apartments leaving 12 people displaced until the electricity is restored.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
