SACRAMENTO COUNTY—

Three people were hurt, including a CHP officer, in an accident involving a California Highway Patrol car along a rural Sacramento road early Tuesday afternoon.

According to CHP, a car near Bradshaw and Florin Roads turned in front of a patrol unit with its lights on and sirens activated heading north. The officer tried to swerve, but crashed into the car’s side, sending the other car into a ditch.

The driver of the other car, 75-year-old Roseville resident Fred Decker, suffered major head trauma and was taken to Kaiser South. Passenger Yuliya Manasyan also suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the UC Davis Medical Center.

While the officer, a 16-year veteran, had minor to moderate injuries, CHP notes that he was able to help in the initial treatment of the people he crashed into. He was also eventually taken to Kaiser South.

CHP notes that any time an officer is involved in an accident, a team has to go out and investigate. The investigation resulted in the closure of Bradshaw Road, in between Florin and Gerber Roads, for a few hours.

The officer involved in the crash is not being identified at this time. However, CHP notes that he had worked in the south Sacramento area for several years.
