A woman was arrested for attacking officers trying to arrest her – repeatedly hitting one in the head with handcuffs, police say.

According to a release from the Woodland Police Department, officers showed up to The Car Wash off of W. Lincoln Avenue around 8:48 a.m. Wednesday after getting a report about a woman yelling, throwing stuff and hitting the curb with a metal object.

Officers tried to take Ruby Marina Lucero, 33, into custody, but she fought with the arresting officer. Another officer then tried to handcuff the woman, only for Lucero break free.

After breaking free, she started hitting the first officer in the head with the handcuffs – giving the officer several lacerations to his hands and elbows.

More officers showed up and were eventually able to take Lucero into custody.

Lucero was taken to Woodland Memorial Hospital for evaluation before being booked at Yolo County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, resisting an officer and possession of methamphetamine charges.

The officer was also taken to Woodland Memorial Hospital to be treated for his injuries. He has since returned to duty.
