Wednesday’s shooting in a parking lot at Arden Fair moved quickly from trigger finger to crime scene.
“I would say within 20 minutes we had everything locked down out there,” said Steve Reed, head of Arden Fair security.
Make fun of mall security all you want, but this not “Paul Blart – Mall Cop”.
Reed, a former police officer, and his crew are prepared for trouble, with plenty of practice under their belt.
“We had the live incident that happened after Christmas, when we had a sign fall over and there was the perception that there were gunshots in the mall. We didn’t fail the test during that time. we learned some things from that,” Reed told FOX40.
They are armed with technology that would make the Department of Defense happy. It was Arden’s 187 cameras that picked up the suspect car and lead Sacramento officers to a home and car on German Drive.
“Everyone who comes in here lives a footprint visually on our CCTV cameras,” Reed said, “We get more than just one angle of an incident, so if one fails we have one or two other angles of it.” It’s made Arden a favorite of cops, but not criminals, “Our prosecution rate is somewhere over 85 percent.”
