The talk of the town is about a silly, privately posted sign posted at an Auburn preschool and child care center. But the owners of Mom’s Kitchen say it should be about what happened to their 5-year-old son.

As the world laughs at this goofy sign that went viral, the owners of Mom’s Kitchen are not laughing.

“It’s silly. I can’t believe people would think it’s funny. It’s not funny,” said Dana Pappas

The Pappas say the sign that says “Please Slow Drively” is not funny because it’s posted in front of the very preschool and daycare center their 5-year-old son went missing from.

“It’s a shame. It’s too bad it really is having our son going missing for an hour is a parent’s worse nightmare. It truly is,” said Mick Pappas.

In a statement to FOX40 News, Lorraine Bell says she intentionally placed the whimsical sign on her private property to get drivers to slow down. She says it works.

“I think the safety of children should never be taken lightly. It’s not a funny thing. They lost my child for 45 minutes and he was found by a jail, a sex registrar’s office. What other parent thinks that’s funny,” said Dana Pappas.

The Pappas, who never noticed the sign until after their son went missing, say the sign needs to go and that the Bell’s needs to take her business more seriously.

“Maybe all aspects of her business more seriously,” said Dana Pappas. Her husband Mick added, “It’s no laughing matter, take care of our children, your children, take care of your business. This is no joke.”

Bell’s Preschool & Childcare Center has been cited by the state and is complying with all mandated changes to make her place safer for children. As for the Pappas, they say Bell tearfully apologized and then submitted them a bill.
