Police and a SWAT unit have surrounded a home in the small Central Valley city of Newman Monday night.
The situation started around 5 p.m. when a man and his neighbor near S Street and Inyo Avenue got into some kind of fight. The man pulled out a gun and the neighbor called 911.
A Newman Police officer showed up to try and work things out, but the man is said to have pointed a rifle at the officer. The officer ran for cover, while the man bolted for his home and barricaded himself inside.
SWAT and Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies have also shown up to the area, but they have not been able to contact the suspect.
The suspect is known to authorities, but they have not identified him. He is said to be on probation for narcotics and domestic violence.
