The lockdown of the emergency room at Mercy San Juan hospital in Carmichael has been lifted, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department said.

Deputies locked down the ER after a woman was brought into the hospital suffering from a stab wound to the chest. The woman said her boyfriend had stabbed her, spawning a search for the man.

Several addresses in the area have been visited by deputies, but the man remains at large.

The woman is still in surgery.

Deputies have turned over the case to detectives, the sheriff’s department notes.
