Going back to an original estimate, the new East Span of the Bay Bridge is scheduled to be opened after Labor Day weekend, the Toll Bridge Program Oversight Committee decided Thursday.

The opening had been postponed following issues with broken bolts and steel rods found in March. Federal officials have since given the go-ahead on a temporary fix to the problem bolts, spurring the decision to follow through with bridge’s opening.

Caltrans notes that the Bay Bridge will be closed starting on August 28 at 8 p.m.  It is scheduled to be reopened by 5 a.m. on September 3.
