American Fire Passes 7,000 Acres

The American Fire has burned more than 7,000 acres, the U.S. Forest Service said.

The fire has continued to send smoke into the air that created a haze in the foothills, causing concern. Difficult, steep terrain has hindered firefighters’ efforts.

Crews as the fire 31 percent contained.

Firefighters are cutting both direct and indirect lines, as well as dropping water and retardant from the air.
