Fire Reported near Union Mine High School, Prompting Evacuations

Cal Fire officials say a fire was reported Friday afternoon near Union Mine High School in El Dorado.

The fire has burned about 100 acres and has prompted neighbors to evacuate their homes. Between 30 and 40 homes are threatened, according to the Cal Fire.

One home was burned.

Firefighters say structures are being threatened by the flames.

According to Caltrans, Highway 49 in El Dorado has been closed between Commerce Way and Flori Road. Detours are in place, but there has been ho estimated time of reopening.

    I saw the smoke in the distance while going through part of Folsom today. I hope the fire is out now and everyone is ok. Fire is a very scary thing.
