Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies booked a man into jail Tuesday they believe is connected with human remains that were found in a Rio Linda field this week.

Investigators were contacted by Sheriff’s deputies in Placer County on Monday, providing a tip about a person buried in a field off 34th Street in Rio Linda. The following morning, Sacramento County Sheriff’s detectives and dogs checked out the field and found buried human remains.

The Sheriff’s Department says the detectives’ investigation led them to 47-year-old William Olsen. Olsen was already in custody from the previous day for an alleged auto theft.

Olsen was re-arrested and booked into jail on a murder charge, deputies say.

Detectives are looking into the possibility that the body is that of a missing person from outside the county, though no positive identification has been made yet.
