Body Pulled from Modesto Canal in an Apparent Drowning

Police are saying that they’ve recovered the body of a person who looks to have drowned in a Modesto canal Wednesday.

The canal where the body was found is along Briggsmore Avenue, west of McHenry Avenue, by a bicyclist riding by around 6:43 a.m. Authorities converged on the scene, causing traffic nearby to come to a crawl.

By 9 p.m., authorities had taken the body out and traffic was cleared.

Modesto Police now say they’re investigating the incident as a drowning. The person has been identified as 64-year-old Modesto resident Marvin Rogers.
