LAKE NATOMA –
A booby trapped bike path has left a sizeable scar on the biking community here.
“I’ve been riding here the past 25 years,” said Kathy Hultgren. “I’ve never heard of anything like it.”
Monday evening, a female cyclist was clotheslined by a long piece of fishing wire. The incident left a pretty good mark on her neck.
“I wouldn’t say cut,” said Sergeant Barry Smith a Park Ranger assigned to Lake Natoma. “To me it looked more like a rope burn than anything else.”
The investigation was inconclusive in determining if the incident was a prank or an accident. There was no sign that the fishing line was tied to the bridge anywhere. However, cyclist who frequent the trail don’t believe what happened on Monday was an accident.
“It looks like where they set it up on the bridge, at that height, it would have to be intentional,” noted Mike Pragley.
If the act were intentional, it’s considered a felony in the state of California to set a booby trap.
