Students at San Joaquin Delta Community College felt unsettled today after learning one of their peers was sexually assaulted.

“It is an open campus and people are allowed to walk through so you have all types of life coming on campus,” said Latika Wilson-Holmes, a staff member at SJDCC.

Campus police say the student was walking alone in the Cunningham stairwell around 11 a.m. when a man walked up from behind her and grabbed her bottom and breasts.

“She made the decision I am going to fight and contacted the police department right away. We were able to contact out officers on duty,” said Sgt. Robert DiPiero with the SJDCC District Police Department.

The suspect was described as a 25 to 30-year-old, 5 ft. 10 in. black male with a scruffy beard.

He was last seen wearing a dirty black pullover sweatshirt, tan pants with black Converse shoes with white laces.

“We always recommend be aware of your surroundings. Walk in pairs whenever possible. Have the departments number programmed,” said Sgt. DiPiero.
