SACRAMENTO-

Sacramento Councilmember Steve Hansen has had a busy first term.

As part of the political team helping to bring a new downtown arena to Sacramento, Hansen’s vote has been one for growth and commerce.

He joined FOX40 in the studio Thursday morning for an exclusive interview to discuss his vision for the central city.

Being the youngest and the newest member of the Sacramento City Council hasn’t stopped Mr. Hansen from pushing an aggressive agenda. The first openly gay councilmember, Steve’s passion for LGBT issues is underscored by his effort to evaluate and raise Sacramento’s Municipal Equality Index, a nationwide measure of a city’s friendliness toward LGBT issues.

His vision to bring parking space sized “parklets” to some city streets would bring new possibilities for patio dining, where the public can enjoy urban spaces without second hand smoke. That is, if Hansen’s comprehensive smoking ordinance is passed.

Security against bike thieves is a big issue for Hansen’s constituents in the central city.  The councilmember is working with businesses and Sac PD to expand the RideOn! program in order to reduce bike theft through bait bikes and a city-wide bicycle registry.
