It was a scary few minutes for the mother of a 5-year-old boy Monday afternoon.

According to Sacramento Sheriff’s spokeswoman Lisa R. Bowman, a woman near Eastern and Marconi Avenues called 911 around 5:15 p.m. to report that her car was just stolen – with her son still inside.

Minutes later, 911 received another call, reporting that the child was back in the custody of the mom and was OK. The boy was able to give a description of the suspect to dispatchers, noting that the thief had a tattoo on his arm.

The stolen car was found a short distance away with the engine still running, but the suspect nowhere in sight.

Authorities believe that the suspect took off running towards Marconi Avenue. They are still actively looking for the suspect.

#1 Never leave your kid(s) in the car by themselves.
#2 Never leave your keys in the car if you aren't inside the vehicle.
