Sacramento Police say the gunman in an early Thursday morning downtown shooting was a deputy district attorney from Mendocino County.

Officers responded to what was initially a report of a stabbing but arrived to find that a man had been shot, according to police.

Investigators say an argument between two groups of two led to the shooting, near 15th and L Streets.

The Mendocino County District Attorney’s office identifies the man as Damon Gardner. Gardner had been on medical leave since the middle of August.

Another Mendocino County prosecutor was at the scene with Gardner and saw the shooting, the DA’s office said. The two were in town to attend a “legal seminar.”

No arrests have been made, and the man who was reportedly shot is said to be getting treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
