Suspected Gunman in Rio Linda Shooting Dies in Hospital

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department said Friday afternoon that the man suspected of leading deputies on a chase and shooting a K-9 officer died in the hospital.

The man reportedly shot himself in the head, and was rushed to the hospital unconscious but still alive.

Deputies say the man was driving a car that had been reported stolen. The chase ended in a field near Elverta and 16th in Rio Linda. The man fired shots at deputies, hitting K-9 Drago in the chest.

The dog was taken to a veterinarian’s hospital and is expected to make a fast recovery.

Deputies say the suspected gunman, who has yet to be identified, shot himself in the head.
