9-year-old Eden Miranda (second from left) was the sole survivor of the Miranda family.

A memorial grows near Lodi Middle School as students, faculty and relatives mourn the loss of the Miranda Family.

“They were nice people. They were the kind of people that liked to help everybody,” said relative Yuli Campo.

Lodi Middle School says parents Luis Miranda and Viviana Miranda-Rodriguez were returning from a school event Tuesday with their four children when their vehicle collided with another car.

“I do not think I have ever in my life seen an accident like this,” said witness Dolores Sosa.

The impact was so hard it killed the couple and three of their children – Jose, Stephanie, and Irving Miranda.

Only one child, 9-year-old Eden, survived.

“It is never easy anytime you have the loss of a student,” said Lodi Middle School Principal Scott McGregor, where Irving attended school. “He always had a smile on his face. He was a good kid. Successful kid in school.”

Lodi Unified School District had counselors, a psychologist and a mental health specialist to help students cope with the loss.

“Students were able to go into the library and sit if they needed to and draw if they needed to. When I went there were quite a few students. He was a very well liked young man,” said Dawn Vetica, Assistant Superintendent with LUSD.

Eden is currently in critical condition at the UC Davis Medical Center.

“We are so supportive of one another. It hit me at fourth period today there is really no place I would have rather been because I was so touched,” said McGregor.

We need to be vey aggressive with the use of cell phones while driving, huge fines to start with and then ban people who keep reoffending. RIP

This is heart breaking. Just last week i nearly found myself in a similiar vehicle accident as this one. I was almost t-boned by a white SUV that sped through a red light at 90pmh in a 35mph zone. People need to stop being so inconsiderate of the human life! My thoughts and prayers go to the Miranda family and everyone else who was injured.
