A Turlock mom was arrested after her children were left at home overnight without any supervision.

Police learned about the alleged neglect after the 11-year-old girl took her 5-year-old brother to school, saying that she didn’t want to leave him home alone.

Tuesday morning, after police were alerted by the school, officers arrested 33-year-old Karina Vargas at her Pedras Road home. She was booked at Stanislaus County Jail on a charge of child endangerment.

The children have since been placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Vargas is being held on $50,000 bail. She is due in court on Nov. 27.
