Modesto Commerce Bank was evacuated late Thursday morning over a hazmat scare.

Investigators say a bank employee found wet mail in the building’s drop box, located next to the copy machine. The person reportedly began to feel sick from the smell.

The smell likely was a mix between the wet mail smell and the smell of the copy machine, according to police.

The building was evacuated, but there is no serious threat. The bank will likely be closed for the rest of the day.
